

For his phenomenal performance in Bramayugam, Mammootty has been chosen as the Best Actor at the 72nd National Film Awards. He shared the award with Kartik Aryan who won it for his performance in Chandu Champion.
This is Mammootty's fourth win in the category after previously winning it in 1989 for Mathilukal and Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha; in 1993 for Ponthan Mada and Vidheyan; in 1998 for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. Mammootty had also won the Kerala State Award for his performance in Bramayugam.
Rahul Sadasivan's period folk horror film, shot completely in black and white, also won its cinematographer, Shehnad Jalal, the National Award.
Other winners from Malayalam this year include Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, the Best Female Playback Singer, for her soulful rendition of the track 'Angu Vaana Konilu' from ARM.
Fasil Muhammed's thought-provoking and thoroughly entertaining social drama Feminichi Fathima bagged the award for the Best Malayalam Film.
The jury this year was headed by Malayalam filmmaker Jayaraj.
