Recently, we reported about Krishand being attached to direct a film starring Mohanlal. In an exclusive conversation with TNIE, the filmmaker confirmed that it would be a realistic detective comedy featuring the superstar and a sidekick character. Recently, actor-producer Maniyanpilla Raju made an interesting revelation about the film. Speaking to Mathrubhumi, he said that the screenwriting works for the project are underway and that it is planned as a mass film similar to director Anwar Rasheed's 2007 film Chotta Mumbai, starring Mohanlal himself.
Maniyanpilla Raju also disclosed that the film will have a screenplay by Niyog Krishna. For the unversed, Niyog has written the screenplay for Asif Ali's upcoming film Tiki Taka, and he is the co-writer of director Khalid Rahman's Mattancherry Mafia, starring Mammootty, Asif himself and Naslen.
Coming back to the Krishand-Mohanlal film, the revelation about Chotta Mumbai has already caused much excitement among fans.
Released in 2007, Chotta Mumbai created quite a festival-like theatrical experience and even outperformed Amal Neerad and Mammootty's Big B at the time. Even when the film hit theatres again recently, it was received really well by the audience.
Maniyanpilla Raju suggested that the upcoming film would use Mohanlal's wide array of talents, including his ability to handle humour, action, comedy, serious moments, and dance sequences. "When you have such an actor on hand, the most important thing is to have a really strong screenplay," the actor-producer said.
The upcoming film is expected to mark Mohanlal's first collaboration with Krishand. The filmmaker is known for critically acclaimed films such as Aavasavyuham, Purusha Pretham, Gaganachari, and Masthishka Maranam – A Frankenbiting of Simon's Memories. He has also won much appreciation for his work in the series The Chronicles of the 4.5 Gang.
