Two powerhouse veteran actors from the South Indian industry are set to reunite on screen once again. Jayaram and Urvashi, who have entertained audiences with their collaboration in several Malayalam and Tamil films, will be joining hands once again for director Pandiraaj's upcoming comedy film. Ahead of the release of Ashakal Aayiram, where he stars alongside his son Kalidas, Jayaram confirmed the news, and shared details about the film.
"After 20 years, we are starring in a film together. Shooting is going on, but a title has not been finalised yet. It has a massively entertaining, humour-filled narrative. Each scene will take about 10-15 takes as we would keep laughing in between shots. Pandiraj sir would wait for us to finish laughing to start shooting the next scene," he explained.
Heaping praise on his co-star, Jayaram said, "This film has a scene where she will repeat the exact same words that I would have told her not to say and then look at me while asking, 'What I said was right?'. Nobody can pull off such an expression." He also recalled a funny anecdote of her improvising on set for a scene and appreciated her spontaneity.
Further details regarding the upcoming film are kept under wraps. An official announcement on the film is also awaited.
Known for their natural performances and comedic timing, Urvashi and Jayaram have acted in Malayalam films like Chakkikotha Chankaran (1989), Malootty (1990), Kadinjool Kalyanam (1991), Marupuram (1990), Mukha Chithram (1991), Koodikazhcha (1991), and Madhuchandralekha (2006). In Tamil, they starred in Kamal Haasan's Panchatanthiram (2002). In 2020, they joined hands to play a couple once again in the anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai which was directly released on Prime Video.
Jayaram was last seen in Kantara: Chapter 1 alongside Rishab Shetty and Rukmini Vasanth which was released last year. The film received rave reviews and earned over Rs 800 crore at the box office. Ashakal Aayiram, his upcoming Malayalam film, will hit theatres on February 6. It is directed by G Prajith, best known for helming Oru Vadakkan Selfie.
Urvashi last played a cameo appearance in Prince and Family (2025). Her performance in the 2024 film Ullozhukku won her praise. She received the National Film Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress.
