The trailer of Krishand’s new film Masthishka Maranam (A Frankenbiting of Simon’s Memories) is out, and it gives an intriguing peek into a very unusual version of the future. The film is set in 2046, in Lower Kochi, and is scheduled to release in theatres on February 27.
Right from the first few seconds, the trailer makes it clear that this is not a regular sci-fi film. There is a shot of a flying car moving across the city skyline. People are seen wearing head-mounted devices, fully immersed in virtual worlds. But interestingly, everyone still speaks the Malayalam we hear today. Rajisha Vijayan plays Frida, a superstar actress who is suddenly caught in serious trouble. In one scene, she questions why award trophies are shaped like men and says she will accept one only when it comes in the shape of a woman.
As the trailer moves forward, we see that Frida is accused of a sensational case. Several familiar faces appear, including Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju, Jagadish, Suresh Krishna, Divya Prabha and Sanju Sivram. In one striking moment, Divya Prabha's character mentions that so many politicians and film personalities applied for anticipatory bail that the website crashed, and Frida could not secure hers. As per the official synopsis, the film revolves around a grieving father who enters a virtual reality memory game to reconnect with his deceased child.
Masthishka Maranam is produced by Ajith Vinayaka Films in association with Krishand Films. The cast also includes Vishnu Agasthya, Rahul Rajagopal, Ann Saleem, Nandu and Santhy Balachandran, among others. Prayag Mukundan handles cinematography, while the music is composed by Varkey.
Krishand is best known for helming critically acclaimed films like Aavasavyuham, Purusha Pretham and Sangarsha Ghadana.
