Earlier, we reported about the makers of The Kerala Story 2 facing flak for a scene that shows a woman being forced to eat beat. "I would rather starve to death," she says in the film's trailer, as others try to shove it through her throat. Keralites, including CM Pinarayi Vijayan, called the film out for its alleged agenda against the state and its communal harmony. Meanwhile, the film is drawing flak from outside the state as well. Prakash Raj and Anurag Kashyap recently expressed their affinity for beef in Kerala amid the discourse around the sequel to The Kerala Story.
Anurag visited Kerala as part of the 70th Filmfare Awards. Speaking to media personnel, Anurag said that he is having a good time in Kerala and relishes eating parotta with beef here. "Beef parotta is the best," he told media people, making them burst out in laughter. Elsewhere, he told another media person that The Kerala Story is "b******* propaganda." Referring to the aforementioned scene, he said, "Who serves beef like that? No one would even serve Khichdi like that." The director also said that the movie has been made just for financial gain. "The filmmaker is a greedy man," he said.
On the other hand, Prakash Raj shared a similar sentiment through social media. "The real Kerala Story is how... "In its mouth-watering culinary journey, Kerala's yummy Syrian Christian beef fry and the coconut beef have added legacy, history and culture to the recipe. Please try and relish," the actor wrote. In a different post, he questioned the alleged divisiveness that the film's makers are aiming to achieve. "The real Kerala Story is how pork, beef, and fish coexist with vegetarian sadya and all of them live in harmony. Please relish," he added.
Both Anurag and Prakash are known for their anti-right perspectives.
