

The Cantonment Police in Thiruvananthapuram have filed a charge sheet against filmmaker, former MLA and CPI(M) loyalist P T Kunju Muhammed in a case involving the alleged molestation and sexual harassment of a woman film professional.
According to the charge sheet, the incident allegedly took place inside a hotel room in the city, where both the accused and the complainant were staying in connection with official duties related to the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). The woman, who is also associated with the film industry, had earlier lodged a complaint accusing Muhammed of sexually assaulting her.
Police have submitted CCTV footage as part of the evidence. The visuals reportedly show the complainant walking near the room in which Muhammed was staying at the time of the alleged incident. Investigators have cited this footage to support the sequence of events outlined in the complaint.
Charges, including outraging the modesty of a woman and sexual assault, have been invoked against the filmmaker under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The offences are punishable with imprisonment of up to five years.
Muhammed, who has also served as a Left-backed independent MLA in Kerala, is known for criticially acclaimed films such as Magrib, Garshom and Paradeshi.
