Social media sensations Hashir, Vinayak, Alan and Ajin are having the time of their lives as their film Vaazha 2 continues to rake in millions at the global box office. Earlier this Sunday, the film's makers announced that it has grossed more than 200 crore from theatres worldwide. Thus, it has become only the fifth film from Malayalam cinema to cross the 200 crore mark. Earlier, films such as Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, L2: Empuraan, Manjummel Boys, and Thudarum achieved this feat. Director Dominic Arun's Lokah, starring Kalyani Priyadarshan in the lead, is still the industry hit.
However, with no big releases in the next couple of weeks in Malayalam cinema, Vaazha II: Biopic of a Billion Bros has a good chance of overtaking Lokah's box office collection record. The film is directed by Savin SA from a screenplay by Vipin Das.
Vaazha II continues its incredible run in theatres even amidst the recent releases, Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam, Pallichattambi (starring Tovino Thomas), and the Kunchacko Boban starrer Oru Durooha Saahacharyathil.
Vaazha 2 tells the story of youngsters dealing with pressure from their families and members of society even as they come to terms with the process of growing up. The film sticks to the same formula as the 2024 original, blending humour with a bevy of emotions. It has capitalised on the popularity of social media content creators such as Hashir, Vinayak, Alan and Ajin. Amidst the humongous success of the film, an old reel where Hashir says he would take Malayalam cinema to new heights is trending again.
Besides the aforementioned quartet, the film also stars Biju Kuttan, Vijay Babu, Alphonse Puthren, Aju Varghese, Ameen, and Angel Maria.
