Earlier, we reported about Vijayaraghavan winning Best Supporting Actor at the 71st National Film Awards for his performance in Pookkaalam, an honour he shared with Parking star MS Bhaskar. At the time of announcement, the actor told CE that he finds "the audience's acceptance more valuable" than the National recognition, although he deemed it a "joyous moment" and an achievement that he felt "content with". The other day, he shared another example of how satisfied he feels after achieving the award. The actor shared a photograph where he can be seen sitting next to his multi-hyphenate father NN Pillai's portrait, alongside their respective accolades. "Two generations. Two national awards. Feeling proud when I place my award near my father's award," wrote the actor.
The Pookkaalam star won the second national award in his family, the first one being his father's accolade from the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Many fans and well wishers commended Vijayaraghavan for carrying forward the legacy of his father, who was an actor, screenwriter, theatre artist, and freedom fighter. Among Malayalam cinema fans, NN Pillai is best known for playing Anjooran in 1991's Godfather. Vijayaraghavan once revealed that his father initially did not want to play the iconic role, as he wished to stay in theatre instead of cinema, but eventually compelled to do it after directors Siddique and Lal's encouragement.
