Lokah: Chapter 1: Chandra, headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan, has scripted another record in Malayalam cinema. On Monday, the makers officially announced through social media that the fantasy epic has become the first Malayalam film to sell more than five million tickets on the ticketing platform BookMyShow.
Lokah, written and directed by Dominic Arun, has already rewritten box office history by surpassing the lifetime earnings of Mohanlal-Prithviraj Sukumaran's L2: Empuraan to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film worldwide. Now, the latest milestone underlines the film’s unprecedented popularity among theatre-goers.
Produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, Lokah draws from Kerala’s folklore and mythology to create an expansive superhero universe. Alongside Kalyani, the film features Naslen and Sandy in key roles, with cameo appearances from Dulquer and Tovino Thomas. Santhy Balachandran is credited with additional screenplay and dramaturgy, while the technical crew includes cinematographer Nimish Ravi, composer Jakes Bejoy, editor Chaman Chakko, and production designer Banglan.
Lokah’s next instalment will focus on Chathan, the character played by Tovino. With its theatrical run still going strong, trade experts expect Lokah to scale even greater heights in the coming weeks.
