The trailer of Balti, the upcoming kabaddi-based sports action drama starring Shane Nigam in the lead, was dropped on Sunday, offering a glimpse into what looks like a high-energy, mass entertainer.
The trailer opens with a voiceover hyping the Velampalayam team on the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border, before introducing four kabaddi players, including Shane’s character Udayan, who is popularly referred to as Balti. We then see Shane in lighter moments alongside the film’s female lead Preethi Asrani, hinting at a romantic track.
The mood shifts as Poornima Indrajith appears as a powerful moneylender, setting up the entry of Alphonse Puthren’s gangster character. His menace is quickly followed by glimpses of Selvaraghavan’s brooding screen presence. The trailer then shifts gears into a flurry of action, with the four kabaddi players caught in clashes both on and off the court. Backed by Sai Abhyankkar’s thumping score in his Malayalam debut, the trailer promises that Balti will be a high-voltage sports actioner, delivering an adrenaline rush with raw kabaddi sequences and heavy doses of drama and gangster conflicts.
Directed by debutant Unni Sivalingam, Balti is a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual featuring several national and state-level kabaddi players alongside Shane, Shanthnu Bhagyaraj, Preethi Asrani, Selvaraghavan, Alphonse Puthren and Poornima Indrajith. The film is slated to release on September 26.
