The other day, Sharaf U Dheen posted a humorous video, where he is asked to pick between himself and other, more famous actors, such as Mohanlal, Amitabh Bachchan, Brad Pitt, and Vijay, among others. A straight-faced Sharaf U Dheen keeps picking himself over all the other legendary actors until the questioner mentions Vinay Forrt. Ultimately, Sharaf chooses only Vinay to be better than him as an actor. The video is part of the promotions for their upcoming film The Pet Detective, also starring Anupama Parameswaran. It introduced Vinay Forrt's character in the film, named Rajath, with a poster where the actor is clad in a safety officer's uniform and holding a cricket bat. The actor captioned the post, saying, "Some truths will come out one day no matter how much you hide it." It has gone down well among multiple social media users, making them respond with smileys and laughter emoticons.
The Pet Detective marks the directorial debut of Praneesh Vijayan, known for his work as a co-writer in filmmaker Omar Lulu's 2016 film Happy Wedding, also starring Sharaf. Praneesh has written its screenplay alongside Jai Vishnu, who served as a co-writer on Sharaf's 2023 film Madhura Manohara Moham.
Sharaf is also the producer of The Pet Detective, alongside Gokulam Gopalan. The film reunites the actor-producer with Premam composer Rajesh Murugesan and cinematographer Anend C Chandran. The film's technical team also includes Abhinav Sunder Nayak, best known as the director of Mukundan Unni Associates (2022).
The Pet Detective has been facing a delay in its theatrical release, with the film missing out on its scheduled April release. The makers are yet to announce a new release date for the film, which wrapped production last September.
