British actor Cosmo Jarvis, best known for his roles in the popular shows Shōgun and Peaky Blinders, has delighted Malayalam cinema fans by naming Mohanlal among his favourite actors in a recent interview with Article magazine.
The Malayalam superstar features on a list otherwise dominated by world cinema greats such as Charles Chaplin, Anthony Hopkins, Gary Oldman, Viggo Mortensen, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix. Mohanlal is notably the only Indian name mentioned.
Fans of Mohanlal have taken to social media to celebrate the recognition, with many highlighting how rare it is to see the actor acknowledged alongside such icons of world cinema by a rising international star.
Jarvis has steadily built a reputation as one of the most prominent actors of his generation. After early acclaim for Lady Macbeth (2016) and Calm with Horses (2019), he went on to appear in Persuasion (2022) and Warfare (2025). His portrayal of John Blackthorne in FX’s historical drama Shōgun (2024) brought him widespread recognition, and he is set to return in the show’s second season alongside Hiroyuki Sanada.
Jarvis’ upcoming slate includes Guy Ritchie’s Wife & Dog and the historical biopic Young Stalin, where he will play a young Joseph Stalin. The actor was also initially part of Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic The Odyssey, although he dropped out shortly before filming commenced.
Mohanlal was last seen in Sathyan Anthikad's family drama Hridayapoorvam, which released for Onam on August 28. The makers of the film recently announced that it has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark at the box office, cementing its hit status. The veteran actor is all set to join the sets of the much-awaited third instalment of the Drishyam franchise, which is scheduled to begin filming later in September.
