Malayalam actor Anna Reshma Rajan, best known for her debut in Angamaly Diaries as Lichi and her role in Ayyappanum Koshiyum opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran, has posted a calm but firm reply to those accusing her of intentionally trying to project an attention-seeking image at public events. In a social media note on Tuesday, she clarified that her physical changes are the result of sustained effort and health treatment, not cosmetic alteration.

“Guys, it is not that I removed extra fitting — I worked really hard to reduce my weight. I feel lighter, happier and healthier now,” she wrote, adding that she is undergoing treatment for Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. “Today I can proudly say I feel younger and more confident than ever… and I have not even reached my final goal yet.”

Her post also directly addressed the tone of online comments about her body. “I have seen all the comments — even the ones worrying about my ‘extra fitting’ — and honestly, I enjoyed it. Because this is the real me I have been longing for… and finally, I made it.” Without naming anyone, she also remarked on the stream of YouTube and influencer content built around her. “I always stayed silent not because I had no answer, but because I know I am also a part of the bread you bring home. So please, continue… just do not hurt others for your happiness.”

This comes after an earlier incident this month in which Anna spoke out about a morphed video circulating online. The video, allegedly from an inauguration event where she wore a white sari, was edited to distort her body. Sharing both the edited clip and the original for comparison, she had written: “You should not have gone this far… I appeal to everyone not to spread such fake videos.” She captioned the original as “this is the real me.”

Her latest note again refers to the scrutiny she receives over public appearances, particularly at inauguration events, where photographs and videos of her attire frequently trigger online commentary. Her response arrives at a time when the appearance and public visibility of female actors often become subjects of discussion, including how they dress at inaugurations and commercial events and how they present themselves on social media. Comments tend to increase when there is a change in how an actor chooses to appear in public or online. Anna’s note does not frame the issue as a grievance. It closes with a general remark for readers to consider, as she puts it: “Do what makes you happy — but let it be kind.”

Meanwhile, Anna is set to make her Tamil debut next year with the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 film.
