Senna Hegde's latest film Avihitham has opened in theatres to positive reviews from critics. The film has also impressed writer NS Madhavan. The novelist took to X to share his thoughts about the film earlier today. According to Madhavan, "Avihitam tackles two enduring Malayali maladies — moral policing and marital suspicion." The writer described it as a "layered" film "with echoes of the Ramayana." He also praised the mostly anonymous cast and the film's director Senna Hegde for delivering "a film that lingers".
Reflecting on the golden run for the industry so far this year, he said, "What a time for Malayalam cinema." It is worth noting that many films, including L2: Empuraan, Thudarum, and Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, have achieved much success this year. According to Sacnilk data, Malayalam films in 2025 have so far grossed more than 3,000 crore from theatres worldwide.
Unni Raj, Renji Kankol, Dhanesh Koliyat, Vineeth Chakyar, Rakesh Ushar, Vrinda Menon and Ammini Chandralayam star in the film. Madhavan's appreciation for the film comes at a time when the film faces further censorship for its references to 'Sita'.
In our Avihitham movie review, Vivek Santhosh called it "a modest yet engaging satire that observes more than it surprises."
