Malayalam cinema's latest industry hit, writer Santhy Balachandran and director Dominic Arun's Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is finally set to have its digital premiere. Earlier today, JioHotstar announced that the Kalyani Priyadarshan starrer will stream soon on the platform. However, the streamer is yet to announce the release date. Earlier, the film's producer, Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films banner, disclosed their decision to delay its digital premiere, considering the tremendous response from audiences in theatres. The news also comes hot on the heels of Lokah becoming the first Malayalam film to gross over 300 crore and the most-watched Malayalam film in the UAE.
Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra tells the story of a woman named Chandra/Kalliyankattu Neeli (Kalyani) with supernatural powers who keeps a rather low-profile existence after surviving decades and still looking young. However, when dark forces come to learn about her powers, Kalliyankattu Neeli has no option but to fight back to protect herself and those around her.
Made on a reported budget of about 30 crore, Lokah's cast includes Naslen, Chandu Salimkumar, and Sandy Master, among others. The film also stars Dulquer himself and Tovino Thomas, among others, in cameo roles.
The film is set to have a second part soon, with the makers announcing Lokah Chapter 2 starring Tovino Thomas. Tovino will reprise his role as Chathan/Michael in the second instalment in the Lokah franchise.
