According to reports, Adoor Gopalakrishnan is set to come back to direction after Pinneyum, his 2016 film starring Dileep and Kavya Madhavan. There is strong buzz in the entertainment industry that the film, an adaptation of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai's novel Randidangazhi, is set to star Mammootty. Reportedly, the actor met Adoor after the former came to Thiruvananthapuram for a state government function, and the two talked about and confirmed the project. If reports are true, it will reunite him with Adoor for the first time after 1994's Vidheyan, which earned the former best actor at the national and state levels. Mammootty Kampany, the actor's production banner, is set to back the film, according to speculation from the industry, although the banner is yet to confirm the same.
Mammootty also starred in Adoor's films Anantaram (1987) and Mathilukal (1990). In the 1990 film, based on Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's eponymous novel, Mammootty played the legendary novelist, and he won a national award for his performance in it. Adoor Gopalakrishnan has long been talking about his desire to work with Mammootty once again. The latest speculated project is still in its early stages.
Meanwhile, Mammootty's upcoming projects include Kalamkaval, with director Jithin K Jose and Vinayakan, which is slated for a November 27 release. He is also reuniting with Mohanlal for the first time after 2013's Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty for director Mahesh Narayanan's Patriot.
