Thinkalazhcha Nischayam-fame Senna Hegde's latest film Avihitham is set to have its digital premiere on JioHiotstar on September 14. The film, starring a relatively new cast, was released in theatres on October 10 and earned largely positive reviews from critics.
Avihitham explores the secrets and social hypocrisy of a small town after a scandal erupts. It uses the premise of an "illicit affair" to highlight double standards, gender-based moral policing, and how gossip shapes the community.
Senna directed the film from a screenplay he wrote alongside Ambareesh Kalathera, based on the latter's story. Unni Raj, Renji Kankol, Dhanesh Koliyat, Vineeth Chakyar, Rakesh Ushar, Vrinda Menon, Ammini Chandralayam, and many others are part of the cast.
The director is also producing Avihitham alongside Mukesh R Mehta, Harris Desom, PB Anish, and CV Sarathi. On the technical front, it has cinematographers Sreeraj Raveendran and Ramesh Mathews, editor Sanath Sivaraj, and composer Sreerag Saji.
Senna, meanwhile, is already in the works for his next film, Blood-y. Announcing the film in October, the director, whose films are mostly set in his hometown Kanhangad, wrote, “We’ve celebrated the simple, the sincere, the everyday Kanhangad heart. Now it’s time to stain it a little. This is our descent into desire, deceit, and decay.” The film, slated for release in 2026, reunites the same production team behind Avihitham.
