Mohanlal’s Thudarum, directed by Tharun Moorthy, has crossed Rs 200 crore in worldwide gross collections, the makers announced on Sunday. The film, which released on April 25, continues its successful theatrical run well into the third week, with strong footfall across Kerala reported through the weekend.
The makers shared the latest update on social media with the caption: “Some journeys don’t need noise, just hearts to carry them forward. Thudarum has found its place in millions of hearts across the world, breaking all the box office records in Kerala. Gratitude for all the love.”
As per the team, the film had earlier overtaken 2018: Everyone is a Hero to become the highest-grossing film in Kerala. With its latest milestone, Thudarum has joined Manjummel Boys and Mohanlal's own L2: Empuraan as only the third Malayalam film to gross over Rs 200 crore worldwide, currently ranking third among them in overall global collections.
Written by Tharun and K R Sunil, Thudarum follows Shanmugham (Mohanlal), a common man whose peaceful life is disrupted after his family is targeted by corrupt policemen. Critics have widely praised Mohanlal’s performance, calling it one of his most compelling in recent years. Celebrated ad filmmaker Prakash Varma's performance as the antagonist was the other major talking point in the film. The ensemble cast also features Shobana, Farhaan Faasil, Mathew Thomas, Binu Pappu, Bharathiraja, Maniyanpilla Raju, and Irshad.
