Javed Akhtar commended the friendship between Malayalam stars Mohanlal and Mammootty through a social media post. On X, Javed wrote, "I wish every Mammootty of India had a friend like Mohanlal and every Mohanlal had a friend like Mammootty. It is obvious that their great friendship is beyond the understanding of some small , narrow minded , petty and negative people but who cares."

Javed's comment comes hot on the heels of an exchange between Mohanlal and Mammootty on social media, with the latter sending his best wishes to the former and actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran on the even of their latest release L2: Empuraan.

"Best wishes to the entire cast and crew of Empuraan for a historic victory! Hope it crosses boundaries across the world and makes the entire Malayalam industry proud. Rooting for you, dear Lal and Prithvi," wrote the Bramayugam star.

In response to Mammootty's post, Empuraan star Mohanlal wrote, "Some moments just hit different. When it comes from my brother, it becomes priceless. Thank you, Ichakka. This means a lot!"

Earlier, Mammootty made a special appearance at the L2: Empuraan teaser launch in Kochi, which also coincided with the 25th anniversary celebrations of the film's production banner Aashirvad Cinemas. The banner got into film production with 2000's Narasimham, starring Mohanlal in the lead role and Mammootty in an extended cameo.

After the premiere of the L2: Empuraan teaser, Mammootty quipped, "I did not think Raju (Prithviraj) would make such a 'small film'. My best wishes to him."

Earlier, Mohanlal visited the Sabarimala temple and prayed for Mammootty as well.

Mammootty is awaiting the April 10 release of Bazooka, co-starring Gautham Vasudev Menon. On the other hand, Mohanlal has Thudarum, which reunites him with Shobana after a long time, in the pipeline. Besides, Mohanlal and Mammootty are also part of Mahesh Narayanan's multistarrer MMMN. The upcoming film also stars Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, and Kunchacko Boban in key roles.

On the other hand, Javed Akhtar last worked as a lyricist on Yudhra, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi, Malavika Mohanan, and Raghav Juyal.
