The Kochi police have registered a fraud case against Malayalam music director Shaan Rahman and his wife in connection with financial irregularities related to a musical event. The case was filed following a complaint by Niju Raj Abraham, a show director from Kollam, who accused Shaan of failing to honour a payment agreement for an event held in January.
According to the complaint, Shaan had promised to pay Niju after receiving funds from an online ticketing platform but allegedly withheld the amount despite collecting over Rs 38 lakh in ticket sales. Niju, who managed the event through his company, Arora, stated that his firm had incurred Rs 34 lakh in expenses covering production, accommodation, travel, security and more.
Following the complaint, the police registered an FIR against Shaan and his wife. The music director sought anticipatory bail, which was granted under the condition that he would appear before the investigating officers. However, he has not yet complied with this directive. In addition to the financial dispute, Shaan faces allegations of threatening the complainant when asked for the payment. He has also been booked for flying a drone in a restricted area and causing traffic disruptions during the event.
Meanwhile, efforts to mediate a settlement have emerged, with close friends of Shaan approaching the complainant to discuss a resolution. Niju has expressed willingness to drop the case if the full payment is made. The legal proceedings remain ongoing.
Shaan is best known for his work in films such as Thattathin Marayathu, Thira, Om Shanti Oshana, Jacobinte Swargarajyam and Godha.
