Rohith VS has come out in support of Malayalam makeup artist Ranjith Gopinathan, popularly known as RG Wayanadan, who was arrested on Sunday for possessing 45 grams of hybrid cannabis. The director, known for helming films such as Kala, Iblis and Adventures of Omanakuttan, took to Instagram on Monday to share his thoughts on the incident.
Rohith posted a screenshot of a news report detailing Wayanadan’s arrest, along with a caption defending the artist. "Yes, he smokes, but he's one of the most peaceful persons I’ve ever met. Nowhere near violence. Nowhere carrying the leaves in quantity saints of Kumbhamela carry. Oru mayathilokke :) you know," the director wrote. Rohith and Wayanadan have previously collaborated on Iblis and Kala.
Wayanadan, who has worked on several hit films including Aavesham, Sookshmadarshini, Romancham and Jan.E.Man, was apprehended by the Moolamattom Excise team as part of ‘Operation Clean State,’ a statewide drive targeting narcotics. His arrest has sparked discussions, particularly due to Aavesham facing criticism for allegedly influencing youth towards violence and substance abuse.
Meanwhile, Rohith is preparing for the resumption of his upcoming film Tiki Taka, starring Asif Ali in the lead, with Wayanadan as part of the crew. The project had been temporarily halted due to Asif’s leg injury sustained during filming in 2023.
