Basil Joseph-starrer Ponman will have its digital premiere on March 14 on JioHotstar, announced the streaming platform. The film, which hit screens on January 30, 2025, had a decent run at the box office.
Ponman is the directorial debut of Jothish Shankar, who worked as a production designer on films such as Kumbalangi Nights, Android Kunjappan Version 5.25, and Nna Thaan Case Kodu. His maiden film is based on GR Indugopan's novel Nalanchu Cheruppakar. Indugopan himself adapted the film's screenplay, along with Justin Mathew.
Set in Kollam, Ponman is a critique of the dowry system, rampant especially in the Southern part of Kerala. Along with that, the film addresses themes like patriarchy and toxic masculinity through two Christian families and a jewelry sales agent caught between them.
Apart from Basil Joseph, the film also starred Aavesham-fame Sajin Gopu, Lijomol Jose, Anand Manmadhan, Deepak Parambol, and Sandhya Rajendran in important roles.
