The makers of Janaki V vs State of Kerala dropped its first official trailer a while ago. The trailer bears the film's new title, and its announcement post on Instagram contains its release date. Janaki V vs State Of Kerala is slated for a July 17 release.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the film's plot, which revolves around a rape survivor (Anupama Parameswaran). Suresh Gopi plays the lawyer defending Anupama's character Janaki. The Pravin Narayanan directorial also stars Suresh Gopi's son Madhav Suresh in a key role. Divya Pillai, Askar Ali, Sruthi Ramachandran, and Baiju Sandosh round out the cast.
The trailer features Suresh Gopi with his signature firebrand dialogues, reminiscent of his yesteryear characters. At one point, he says, "No matter who tries to protect them, I will stand against them and they will be crucified in the court of justice." The line is juxtaposed with the image of the actor beating up someone at a ritualistic art form with a Goddess figure. Later, Suresh, clad in lawyer uniform, says, "The government has to answer."
Produced by J Phanindra Kumar and Sethuraman Nair Kankol, the film courted controversy after the Censor Board enforced changes to its title, arguing that a rape survivor could not be named Janaki as it is Goddess Sita's alternative name. Subsequently, the makers had to change the title from Janaki vs State of Kerala to the latest title. It has received a U/A 16+ certificate from the Censor Board. The film has music by Gireesh Narayanan, editing by Samjith Mohammed, and cinematography by Renadive.
