Director Dileesh Pothan shared on Instagram behind-the-scenes images from the sets of his masterpiece film Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, which celebrates its eighth release anniversary today. The film, which hit theatres on June 30, 2017, tells the story of a thief (Fahadh Faasil) who faces accusations of stealing a married woman's (Nimisha Sajayan) gold chain.
Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum marks the acting debut of Nimisha Sajayan, who earned critical acclaim for her intense performance as the married woman. The film, featuring a Sajeev Pazhoor screenplay with dialogues by Syam Pushkaran, also stars Suraj Venjaramoodu as Nimisha's onscreen husband.
Set mostly at a police station, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum explores themes of corruption in law enforcement, intercaste politics, social identity, and marital trust and integrity. The film constantly makes us question the very definitions of 'good' and 'bad'. The audience appreciated the film for its realistic exploration of these themes in a drama that unfolds with qualities of a so-called "slice-of-life" film. Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum is among the three films in Dileesh Pothan's career as a director, the others being Maheshinte Prathikaaram and Joji. The film earned him unanimous praise from the critics, who hailed his directorial work as "Pothettan Brilliance".
Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum won three National Film Awards: Best Malayalam Film, Best Screenplay (for Sajeev), and Best Supporting Actor (for Fahadh). It also won two Kerala State Film Awards: Best Screenplay and Best Character Actor (for Alencier Ley Lopez).
