The makers of the Basil Joseph-starrer Ponman have released the film's jukebox. The 16-minute long album, composed by Justin Varghese, has four tracks: 'Kollam Pattu,' 'Braidaathi,' 'Paka,' and 'Arbhadam'.
Ponman was released theatrically on January 30 and has received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film is an adaptation of the novel Nalanchu Cheruppakar by GR Indugopan, who has also jointly penned the screenplay with Minnal Murali co-writer Justin Mathew. It marked the directorial debut of seasoned production designer Jothish Shankar, noted for his work in films like Kumbalangi Nights, Android Kunjappan Ver 5.25, and Nna Thaan Case Kodu.
Along with Basil, Ponman stars Aavesham-fame Sajin Gopu, Lijomol Jose, Deepak Parambol, Anand Manmadhan, Sandhya Rajendran, Rajesh Sharma, Kiran Peethambaran, Reju Sivadas, Jaya Kurupp, Midhun Venugopal, Thankam Mohan and Shylaja P Ambu.
An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "Jothish Shankar makes an impressive transition from a seasoned production designer to a full-fledged filmmaker with his directorial debut, showcasing a strong visual sensibility and an assured grasp of storytelling. Having crafted immersive worlds in his previous production design ventures, his ability to translate that expertise into directing is evident in the film’s atmosphere, detailing and lived-in settings. Instead of excessive dramatisation, he leans into subtlety, trusting the strength of his screenplay and actors."
