On Sunday, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Aashirvad Cinemas, the makers unveiled the teaser for the Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan at a star-studded event in Kochi. The film, a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 27. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, the project marks Prithviraj's third collaboration with Mohanlal as a director, following Lucifer and Bro Daddy.
The teaser of L2: Empuraan, lasting 2 minutes and 23 seconds, opens with stark visuals of a desolate, war-torn landscape labeled as "Qaraqosh, The Ghost Town, Northern Iraq." Lines from the prequel introduce the protagonist, Stephen Nedumbally, also known as Khureshi Ab'ram, as the narrative intercuts between Kerala’s political landscape and high-octane sequences showcasing Khureshi’s operations in Iraq. The teaser also features covert, CIA-style operations conducted by mercenaries in pursuit of Khureshi. Action-packed glimpses further highlight the film's ambitious scale, promising a gripping political action spectacle.
L2: Empuraan also brings back key supporting cast members, including Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Saniya Iyappan, Saikumar, and Nandu, with new additions yet to be revealed. The film's technical crew remains largely unchanged, with Sujith Vaassudev handling cinematography, Deepak Dev composing the music, and Stunt Silva choreographing the action sequences. Akhilesh Mohan, who worked on Lucifer as an assistant editor, is the main editor for Empuraan. It is produced by Aashirvad Cinemas in collaboration with Lyca Productions.
L2: Empuraan will be released in Malayalam alongside dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
