Ace filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon is making his directorial debut in Malayalam with Dominic And The Ladies' Purse, headlined by Mammootty. With the film all set for release on January 23 (Thursday), the director shared a note on social media recalling his awe at watching Mammootty films in the 80s and 90s, which invoked a desire to work with him. He wrote, "From when I watched Thaniyavarthanam, Amaram, Thalapathi, Vadakkan Veeragatha, CBI Diary Kurippu, New Delhi, and August 1, being spellbound and thinking I must get to work with this man. To now directing him in a film that’s also produced by him, I believe in life, magic, and dogged pursuit."

Dominic And The Ladies' Purse is a comedy thriller with Mammootty playing a former cop-turned-private detective. While the film's story is by Dr Neeraj Rajan, he has also co-written the screenplay and dialogues with his brother Dr Sooraj Rajan, and director Gautham Menon.

Its ensemble cast includes Gokul Suresh, Sushmitha Bhat, Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum-fame Viji Venkatesh, Shine Tom Chacko, Vineeth, Lena, Siddique, and Vijay Babu. Gautham's regular collaborators, including editor Anthony, cinematographer Vishnu Dev (one of the directors of photography for the director's yet-to-be-released film Dhruva Natchathiram), and Enai Noki Paayum Thotta's composer Darbuka Siva, are part of Dominic And The Ladies' Purse.
