Marco actor Unni Mukundan dismisses KFPA's call to restrict actors from producing films

Marco actor Unni Mukundan has strongly opposed the Kerala Film Producers' Association's (KFPA) stance that actors should not venture into film production. Speaking at a press conference for the promotion of his latest film Get Set Baby, Unni stated that producing films with his own money is his right and should not be questioned.

"I came into production with the intention of making good films. It is my right to invest my money as I wish. My profits and losses are my concern, and no one has the authority to question them. The claim that actors should not produce films is baseless," he said. Unni also pointed out that professionals from other industries, such as IT, have entered filmmaking without restrictions.

The controversy arises amid the KFPA’s recent call for an industry-wide strike from June 1, which would halt all film productions. The strike is reportedly in response to producers' financial difficulties. However, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has opposed the move, arguing that shutting down production will hurt the industry as a whole.

Meanwhile, the debate over actor remuneration continues. When asked whether actors should reduce their fees, Get Set Baby star Nikhila Vimal highlighted the gender disparity in earnings. "We do not earn as much as male actors. If we lower our fees any further, we will be left with nothing," she said.
