Actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran has watched the National Award-winning Malayalam film Aattam and is full of admiration for it. In a WhatsApp message to the film’s director, Anand Ekarshi, Prithviraj described Aattam as an example of “world-class writing and even better filmmaking.”
Anand, evidently thrilled by the praise, took to Instagram to share the message, calling Prithviraj “Raju chetta” and expressing how much the recognition meant to him and his team. He also mentioned he was always curiosity about Prithviraj’s thoughts on the film and noted that sharing the message would bring pride to the entire Aattam team.
Aattam, a gripping chamber drama modeled on 12 Angry Men, explores gender politics and human hypocrisies through the lens of a theatre group. The film revolves around a sexual harassment accusation made by the sole actress (Zarin Shihab) of the group against a popular film star (Kalabhavan Shajohn) who recently joined their team. As the members deliberate on the situation, the film dives deep into their personal biases, moral dilemmas, and shifting loyalties. The film's cast also includes Vinay Forrt, Prasanth Madhavan, Aji Thiruvamkulam, and Madan Babu K.
The 70th National Film Awards saw Aattam winning in three major categories including the award for Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Editor.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj's third directorial venture L2: Empuraan is slated to hit theatres worldwide on March 27. The film, a sequel to the 2019 Mohanlal-starrer Lucifer, is penned by Murali Gopy and produced by Aashirvad Cinemas.
