Film producer Tomichan Mulakuppadam has firmly rejected allegations regarding the financial status of the Mohanlal-starrer Pulimurugan, stating that the film was a resounding success and that all debts related to its production had been settled. In a detailed social media post, he addressed claims made by former Kerala DGP Tomin J Thachankary and asserted that the film had been a financially rewarding venture.

Tomichan explained that while Pulimurugan did exceed its initial budget and timeline, it remained highly profitable. He revealed that he had taken a Rs 2 crore loan from the Kottayam branch of the Kerala Financial Corporation (KFC) for the film and had fully repaid it by December 2016. Furthermore, he emphasised that he had paid over Rs 3 crore in income tax, a clear indication that the film had generated substantial profits.

He also highlighted the historic success of Pulimurugan, which became the first Malayalam film to enter the 100-crore club. "Nearly nine years ago, even before its international release, Pulimurugan managed to generate a total business of over Rs 100 crore in less than three weeks," he stated.

Tomichan strongly criticised attempts to misrepresent the film's financial aspects and urged audiences to disregard misleading claims. "I take immense pride in having produced Pulimurugan, a film that not only made history in Malayalam cinema but also provided me with the financial stability to continue my journey as a producer. Any false allegations and baseless narratives should be ignored with the disdain they deserve," he wrote. The producer concluded his statement by reassuring fans that Mulakupadam Films would continue to bring compelling and successful films to audiences in the future.

Tomin Thachankary, in an interview with Janam TV, claimed that despite Pulimurugan being widely regarded as a 100-crore club film, its financial records painted a different picture. He stated that the loan taken from KFC for the film had not been fully repaid and that the figures presented by the producer earlier differed from what was later observed. He also discussed the broader financial struggles of film producers and how high-interest loans impact the industry.
