Ahead of the film's release on February 20, the makers of the Kunchacko Boban-starrer Officer on Duty unveiled its trailer on Sunday. It is directed by debutant Jithu Ashraf, who previously assisted in films like Action Hero Biju, Udhaharanam Sujatha, and Ela Veezha Poonchira. He is also noted for his acting roles in Nayattu and Iratta.
The trailer for Officer on Duty begins with visuals of a police jeep arriving at the Kochi City Police Station. The camera then follows Kunchacko Boban’s character with a tracking shot from behind as he walks into the station and heads to his office. As he enters, a voiceover states, "There is a problem with the investigation of a case that Harishankar mentioned." This is followed by glimpses of an intense police procedural. In one scene, Jagadish’s character is seen in tears, pleading with Kunchacko Boban, "I had begged you, saying we had no complaints."
The trailer also offers a glimpse into Kunchacko Boban’s married life with Priyamani and their two children, though it remains unclear whether these scenes are set in the present or depicted as flashbacks. The focus then shifts back to the investigation, hinting at a murder case, while introducing a group of young men with villainous intent, led by Vishak Nair. The trailer teases a gripping police procedural intertwined with a twist-filled mystery thriller.
Officer on Duty is scripted by Shahi Kabir, who earlier penned Joseph, Nayattu and directed Ela Veezha Poonchira. Billed as an emotional crime thriller, the upcoming film also stars Manoj KU, Srikant Murali, Unni Lalu, and Ramzan. It has cinematography by Kannur Squad director Roby Varghese Raj, music by Jakes Bejoy, and editing by Chaman Chakko. Officer on Duty is produced by Martin Prakkat Films in collaboration with The Green Room, headed by Siby Chavara and Ranjith Nair.
Kunchacko Boban was last seen in Amal Neerad's Bougainvillea (2024). He is also part of Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval's Oru Durooha Saahacharyathil, Arun Varma's Baby Girl and Mahesh Narayanan's multi-starrer film MMMN, which also stars Mammootty, Mohanlal and Fahadh Faasil.
