After a couple of disappointing outings with Dominic and the Ladies Purse and Bazooka, Mammootty is set to sign off the year on a high with Kalamkaval. The thriller, which hit screens on Friday, has become his second-biggest opening film, after his 2024 release Turbo. According to reports, it has grossed over ₹14 crores globally, with around ₹4.92 crores from Kerala alone. The film was released in 260 screens across Kerala, but owing to the huge demand, the screen count has increased to 365 in a day. It is also the third-highest opener of the year in Malayalam after Empuraan and Thudarum.
Kalamkaval's USP is Mammootty's turn as a menacing serial killer, a role he hasn't done before in his illustrious career. His character Stanley Das is inspired by Cyanide Mohan, a notorious criminal convicted of killing 20 women. Director Jithin K Jose and Jishnu Sreekumar have scripted the film as an investigative thriller where Vinayakan plays the cop on trail. Rajisha Vijayan, Jibi Gopinath, Biju Pappan, and Gayathri Arun also star in it.
Kalamkaval is produced by Mammootty's own production house MammoottyKampany, and presented in Kerala by his son Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films.
