Actor Maala Parvathi has suggested that fellow actor Baburaj may be involved in the controversy surrounding Shwetha Menon, stating that many in the industry are afraid of him and suspect his role in the developments. Speaking to Asianet News, Maala claimed that the case against Shwetha emerged shortly after Baburaj withdrew his candidature for the upcoming AMMA elections.
In the same interaction, Maala revealed that Shwetha was shocked by the development, particularly because she was not informed about the case before it reached court. Maala said the police registered an FIR without notifying Shwetha, and that the charges include provisions under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
She added that, with the support of her family, Shwetha is preparing to take strong legal action against what she described as a baseless and targeted case. Maala also criticised the charges filed under the IT Act and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, calling it a reflection of the growing cancel culture within the Malayalam film industry.
Maala also shared that she has received warnings to remain silent, but decided to speak out publicly as she believes the situation has escalated beyond acceptable limits.
The actor further alleged that both Shwetha Menon and Kukku Parameswaran, candidates for the posts of President and General Secretary, respectively, are being targeted as part of a broader attempt to undermine women contesting top leadership roles in AMMA. If elected, they would be the first women to occupy these positions in the association’s history.
Earlier, in a Facebook post, Maala criticised the attacks as a “politically driven conspiracy” and urged both Shwetha and Kukku to pursue legal action against those behind what she called a smear campaign.
