The Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) has rejected Sandra Thomas’ nomination for the upcoming organisational elections, citing non-compliance with eligibility criteria. The decision was taken during the scrutiny of nomination papers, disqualifying her from contesting for the posts of Treasurer and President.
According to KFPA rules, candidates must submit three censor certificates bearing their name. Sandra submitted two certificates under her banner, Sandra Thomas Productions, and one from her former partnership firm, Friday Film House. The Returning Officer ruled these invalid, stating they do not establish individual eligibility as per the association’s guidelines.
Sandra questioned the selective scrutiny of her documents and alleged that the rejection was premeditated. “No other candidate’s papers were questioned. The Returning Officer seemed to have already made up his mind about mine,” she said. A disagreement reportedly ensued during the verification process.
This development follows months of friction between Sandra and the KFPA. In November 2024, she was expelled from the body for alleged indiscipline, a decision later stayed by the court. Her candidacy this time was seen by many as a bold challenge to the association’s entrenched leadership.
Sandra has stated that she will seek legal recourse against the rejection, maintaining that her name is clearly present on the submitted certificates. The KFPA election is scheduled to take place later this month on August 14.
