On Thursday, filmmaker Tharun Moorthy revealed through Instagram that he has received an invitation from President Droupadi Murmu to be part of an event called "At-home Reception" on Independence Day. The President of India hosts the event at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Independence Day each year. It is an event that brings together various dignitaries that mark the national occasion. The guest list for the event is diverse, including political leaders and dignitaries such as the Prime Minister, the Vice President, and various ministers. Besides these protocol-based invitees, the President also invites an array of individuals from different fields for the event.
Typically, invitations for the "At home" reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan feature a formal white card with the Lion Capital of Ashoka. This year, however, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Republic of India, guests will receive a specially curated box of crafts from the five southern states, along with their invitation cards. Announcing the news, Tharun opened one of those boxes with the card inside it. He described getting invited by the President for “At-home Reception” as “a privilege and an honour.”
For the uninitiated, Tharun Moorthy made his directorial debut with 2021’s Operation Java and followed it up with the National Award-winning film Saudi Vellakka. More recently, he received critical acclaim and commercial success for Thudarum, starring Mohanlal, Shobana, Prakash Varma, Thomas Mathew, Binu Pappu, and Farhaan Faasil, among others. According to reports, Thudarum grossed more than 200 crore at the global box office.
