Actor Shine Tom Chacko reportedly fled from a hotel in North Ernakulam on Wednesday night during a police raid linked to suspected drug use. The raid, carried out by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF), took place at around 11 PM. According to reports, the police arrived at the hotel as part of a targeted operation.
Shine, who was staying in Room 314 on the third floor, allegedly spotted the officers at the door and escaped through the window. CCTV footage, now circulating online, shows a person believed to be the actor running down a staircase moments after the police entered the premises. Despite a thorough search, officers did not recover any narcotic substances from the room. However, sources suggest that Shine may have been tipped off about the raid in advance, allowing him to evade immediate detention.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a formal complaint filed by Vincy Aloshious against Shine. She accused him of inappropriate behaviour during the shooting of the upcoming film Soothravakyam, alleging that he acted erratically and disturbingly, purportedly under the influence of drugs. Vincy has submitted her complaint to both the Kerala Film Chamber and the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the film. The Film Chamber is set to hold an emergency meeting on Monday to review her complaint, while the Kochi Excise Department has begun seeking information related to her claims.
Notably, this recent episode comes shortly after Shine's acquittal in a long-standing drug case. On February 11, 2025, the Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court acquitted him and six others in connection with a 2015 cocaine possession case. The court criticised the police for procedural lapses, including the failure to verify drug consumption and improper handling of evidence. The acquittal was based on insufficient evidence and significant flaws in the investigation process.
