The Wadakkanchery police have registered a new case of sexual abuse against Malayalam actor and politician Mukesh following a fresh complaint from a female actor, a native of Aluva in Ernakulam. The woman alleged that the incident occurred in 201 at a hotel in Wadakkanchery during the production of the film Nadakame Ulakam. According to her complaint, Mukesh attempted to assault her physically and pushed her onto the bed. The police have stated that a summons will be issued to the accused, and the case will be handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for further investigation.

This new case comes on the heels of another non-bailable offence registered against Mukesh by the Maradu police in Kochi. In this earlier complaint, a woman actor accused Mukesh of intruding into her hotel room and misbehaving with her. Mukesh, who is also a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), faces charges under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Kerala government's SIT has announced plans to oppose Mukesh's anticipatory bail plea, scheduled for a hearing on September 3, citing the need for his custodial interrogation to ensure a thorough investigation.

The recent complaints add to a series of allegations against Mukesh. On Tuesday, a junior artist accused Mukesh of inappropriate behaviour toward her friend's mother during a home visit, which led to him being asked to leave. A day earlier, another female actor publicly accused Mukesh of demanding sexual favours in exchange for membership in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). These follow earlier allegations from casting director Tess Joseph, who accused Mukesh of misconduct at an event several years ago. Mukesh has dismissed all accusations, claiming they are politically motivated.

In response to these mounting allegations, the police have been proactive in reaching out to those who have voiced their complaints through social media and other platforms. Meanwhile, the SIT's search of Mukesh's residence in Kochi is part of ongoing efforts to collect evidence. The recent public release of the Justice Hema Committee report, which documented widespread sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry, has emboldened many survivors to speak out.
