In a recent media interaction, director Lal Jose confirmed that actor Fahadh Faasil will play a pivotal role in his upcoming film, an adaptation of K N Prasanth’s novel Ponam.
Set against the backdrop of dense forests, the story explores themes of vengeance, set in the fictional village of Karimbunam, located on the Kerala-Karnataka border. According to the director, the film is being envisioned as a large-scale production, featuring two significant characters—one of them being Fahadh. Lal Jose is yet to finalise who will play the other key role. The upcoming project also marks a reunion for the director and actor, who previously collaborated on the Mammootty-starrer Immanuel (2013).
Details on the start of shooting for the Ponam adaptation are awaited. Earlier this year, Lal Jose revealed that Santhosh Sivan will be the cinematographer for the film, while the KGF production banner Hombale Films is also involved in this project.
Fahadh was last seen in Bougainvillea, directed by Amal Neerad. The Aavesham actor has a busy slate of projects across multiple languages. In Malayalam, he is currently working on Althaf Salim's romantic comedy Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira and will also appear in debutant Roy's Karate Chandran and Vipin Das' gangster comedy, alongside Tamil actor SJ Suryah. Fahadh also has films lined up with directors Jeethu Joseph and Renji Panicker. In Tamil, he will star in Mareesan alongside Vadivelu, while his Telugu projects include Pushpa 2: The Rule, Oxygen, and Don’t Trouble The Trouble.
Lal Jose’s last directorial was the 2022 film Solamante Theneechakal.
