Earlier, we reported that Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey director Vipin Das is reuniting with Prithviraj Sukumaran for a family drama titled Santhosh Trophy. On Wednesday, the makers officially announced the film by unveiling its title poster on social media to coincide with the lead actor's birthday. The announcement suggested that Prithviraj will portray the titular character, with the caption reading, "Get ready to meet Santhosh as he chases his dream trophy on his next birthday!" This marks the second collaboration between the director and the actor, following the success of this year's superhit film Guruvayoorambala Nadayil.
Santhosh Trophy is produced by Listin Stephen for Magic Frames in association with Supriya Menon for Prithviraj Productions. The film marks the fifth joint production venture between the two banners, following Prithviraj-starrers Driving License (2019), Jana Gana Mana (2022), Kaduva (2022), and Gold (2022).
Vipin had previously announced a gangster comedy with Fahadh Faasil and Tamil actor SJ Suryah in lead roles. However, the director clarified to CE in an earlier conversation regarding the current status of that project, stating that it would take some more time, as both actors were occupied at the time. Besides Prithviraj, Santhosh Trophy will also introduce several newcomers, according to Vipin.
Meanwhile, Vipin is also working on the script for a sequel to Vaazha, which he scripted and co-produced.
Prithviraj is currently directing L2: Empuraan, the sequel to the Mohanlal-starrer Lucifer (2019).
