The makers of Amal Neerad's Bougainvillea unveiled the trailer on Wednesday. The film is slated to hit theatres on October 17. It is headlined by Kunchacko Boban, Jyothirmayi and Fahadh Faasil.
The trailer opens with visuals of Reethu (Jyothirmayi) running through a sunflower field in broad daylight, which suddenly shifts as if it were a nightmare when she wakes up in the middle of the night with her husband, Royce (Kunchacko Boban), by her side. We then see the couple, seemingly in the past, involved in a car accident, accompanied by Royce's voiceover explaining that, following the accident, Reethu's memory and behaviour have become disturbed. He also mentions that his wife has developed an unusual fixation on bougainvillaea flowers. Soon after, we are introduced to David Koshy (Fahadh Faasil), a police officer investigating a missing woman, as he arrives at the couple's home as part of the inquiry. What follows are glimpses promising an action-packed psychological thriller, as the investigation possibly unearths a deeper mystery surrounding Reethu's past.
Bougainvillea also stars Sharaf U Dheen as Biju, Veena Nandakumar as Meera, and Srinda as Rema. The film is bankrolled by Jyothirmayi and Kunchacko Boban under the banners of Amal Neerad Productions and Udaya Pictures, respectively. The film has been jointly scripted by novelist Lajo Jose and Amal, with additional dialogues provided by R J Murugan, known for his contributions to Amal's previous directorial, Bheeshma Parvam.
