Malayalam filmmaker Venogopan dies at 67

Renowned Malayalam director Venugopan passed away on Friday at his residence in Kadakkarappally, near Cherthala. He was 67.

He was said to be receiving treatment for cancer, according to reports.

Venugopan was known for his movies Sharjah to Sharjah, Sarvopari Palakkaran and Kusruthi Kuruppu, Choonda, Swarnam, and The Reporter, among others.

The film fraternity expressed condolences over his demise.

Making his debut with Kusruthi Kuruppu starring Jayaram and Meena in 1998, he began his film career as an assistant director to P Padmarajan in films like Njan Gandharvan, Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal, and Innale. His last directorial was Sarvopari Palakkaran in 2017, starring Anoop Menon, Aparna Balamurali, and Anu Sithara in lead roles.

Venugopan's funeral was held at his Cherthala residence on Friday evening.

He is survived by his wife Latha, children Lakshmi and Vishnu Gopan, and son-in-law Raveesh.
