No Malayalam releases from Thursday, announce Kerala theatre exhibitors federation

Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) said that there wouldn't be any Malayalam movies releasing in theatres starting February 22 this year. FEUOK makes the decision as a protest to certain stances of film producers. FEUOK had earlier informed producers of its demands, including delaying OTT releases until a stipulated date and keeping the decision to install projectors at theatres vested with the owners concerned. According to reporters, FEUOK president K Vijayakumar said that exhibitors require producers to follow a window of 42 days between a film's theatrical release and its OTT release. However, FEUOK found that Malayalam film producers have been in constant violation of these norms. Consequently, the organisation has come up with the decision to stop Malayalam releases in theatres from February 22 onwards.

It is worth noting that the decision applies to upcoming films, not the ones already running in theatres. Meanwhile, Kerala Films Producers' Assocation  have released a contract notice stating that Manjummel Boys will release next Thursday, as planned, in the theatres they have a cordial relationship with, and that this also applies to the subsequent releases.
