The makers of Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, starring Mammootty and directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, released the film’s teaser on Wednesday. The screenplay is jointly written by Gautham, Dr Neeraj Rajan, and Dr Suresh Rajan. Neeraj and Suresh previously co-wrote ABCD (2013) and contributed to the additional screenplay of Iratta (2023).
The teaser for Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse opens with Gokul Suresh’s character asking Mammootty’s, seemingly his boss, if there could be trouble, especially if their opponents respond violently. Mammootty’s character, with characteristic calm, replies that, at worst, there might be an attack. He then playfully demonstrates self-defence moves, including slaps, punches, and uppercuts. Gokul immediately enquires whether the same techniques were used on the men who attacked Mammootty’s home earlier. Mammootty’s character nonchalantly explains that they were untrained thugs and that the surprise attack was easy to handle. The teaser ends with both characters waiting nervously for an imminent confrontation, setting the tone for a fun-filled thriller.
In an earlier conversation with CE, Neeraj revealed that Mammootty plays a private detective in the film. “It’s a comedy thriller with Mammukka portraying a fun character reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes,” he said. Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse marks Gautham Vasudev Menon’s directorial debut in Malayalam and is produced by MammoottyKampany. The film's cast also includes Sushmitha Bhat, Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum-fame Viji Venkatesh, Shine Tom Chacko, Vineeth, Lena, Siddique, and Vijay Babu. On the technical front, Gautham has brought on board several of his regular collaborators, including editor Anthony, cinematographer Vishnu Dev—one of the DOPs of his yet-to-be-released Dhruva Natchathiram—and composer Darbuka Siva, known for his work in Enai Noki Paayum Thota (2019).
