Shruti Ramachandran's Neeraja release postponed

The release of Shruti Ramachandran-starrer Neeraja has been postponed to June 2, announced the makers. The film was supposed to hit screens this Friday. The exact reason for the last-minute postponement is not yet known. With Neeraja opting out, there will only be two Malayalam mainstream releases this week -- Charles Enterprises and Jackson Bazaar Youth.

Neeraja is written and directed by Rajesh K Raman, who earlier scripted the Jayasurya-starrer Shakespeare MA Malayalam (2008) and Sunny Wayne film Saaradhi (2015). It is the official remake of the Kannada film Nathicharami, which won five awards at the National level, including a Special Mention for its lead actor, Sruthi Hariharan.

Neeraja has Shruti Ramachandran reprising Sruthi Hariharan's role as a widow who is torn between her physical desires and emotional beliefs. Jinu Joseph essays the part played by late actor Sanchari Vijay in the original. Srinda, Govind Padmasoorya, Guru Somasundaram, Abhija Sivakala, Hridayam-fame Kalesh Ramanand, Raghunath Paleri, Kottayam Ramesh, Sminu Sijo, Santhosh Keezhattoor, Shruthi Rajanikanth, and Sajin Cherukayil also star in the Malayalam version.
