Prithviraj's ambitious period film Kaaliyan is set to go on floors by the end of June, according to the makers. Martial arts expert and former journalist S Mahesh is directing the film, and Rajeev Govindan's Magic Mountain Cinemas is backing it. In a recent interview, the producer revealed that they are planning to begin production by June-end. Prior to that, the team is planning to construct huge sets in Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, and Palakkad.

Though the makers announced Kaaliyan almost five years ago, they had to wait a while to go ahead with filming due to various delaying factors, which included Prithviraj's busy schedule and the pandemic. The actor is currently shooting for the Hindi film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which also stars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. After its completion, he will wrap up his remaining portions for Vilayath Buddha. He is then expected to begin shooting for Kaaliyan.

Scripted by BT Anilkumar, Kaaliyan is an action-heavy film in which Prithviraj plays Kunjirakottu Kaali, a great warrior and forgotten hero from the Venad kingdom. The makers have got KGF-fame Ravi Basrur to compose the music. Other details regarding the cast and crew are yet to be announced officially.
