The makers of Prithviraj's 2018-released film Ranam have hinted that a sequel for the film is on cards. Recently, director Nirmal Sahadev took to Instagram to share a photo of Prithviraj from the film, and wrote a cryptic note, which reads, 'His soul died. But they didn't celebrate. Because what was to follow was the worst. He was a dead man walking. A breathing soulless body. A machine. Living daily only to die. A brutal unstoppable machine. So they didn't celebrate... they feared. They feared him.'

Nirmal's post was shared by Prithviraj, editor Sreejith Sarang and composer Jakes Bejoy. Sreejith even captioned his post as, 'Part 2'. This led to speculations among netizens that a sequel for the film is indeed in works.

However, this is not the first time talks about Ranam 2 have surfaced. A couple of years back, Prithviraj had shared about his temptation to make a second part of the film. In a social media post, he had written, 'Knowing what Nirmal Sahadev’s original vision was, and also knowing how much of the script we couldn’t film, sometimes I’m tempted to attempt a sequel to what Aadhi in Ranam could have been.'

After Ranam, Prithviraj and Nirmal collaborated for the latter's sophomore film Kumari, a mythological fantasy film starring Aishwarya Lekshmi in the titular role. Prithviraj's banner presented it in association with Magic Frames. Interestingly, Nirmal is also part of the direction team of Prithviraj's upcoming directorial, Empuraan. The two were spotted multiple times together during location scouting and other pre-production works.
