The veteran Malayalam actor Mamukoya passed away in Kozhikode on Wednesday. He was 76. 

On Monday, the actor, who attended the inauguration of a football tournament in Malappuram, collapsed after he expressed some discomfort. He was then rushed to the nearest hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Kozhikode. He reportedly suffered cardiac arrest and brain haemorrhage and was put on ventilator support. After his health condition deteriorated, he breathed his last on Wednesday. 

The actor is known for acting in more than 450 Malayalam films in a career spanning over four decades. He predominantly appeared in comedic roles and was known for his Mappila dialect. While he made his debut with Anyarude Bhoomi in 1979,  some of his memorable films include Chandralekha, Perumazhakkalam and Nadodikkattu, among several others. Mamukoya received a special mention from the Kerala State Film Award for his performance in Perumazhakkalam. He was last seen in Sulaikha Manzil.

He was born on July 5, 1946 to Chalikandiyil Muhammed and Imbachi Ayisha. He was married to Suhara and has four children Muhammed Nisar, Shahitha, Nadiya and Abdul Rasheed.
