Following the Malayalam actor assault case in 2017, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) had filed two writ petitions to the High Court of Kerala in 2018 urging the setting up of internal complaints cells in shooting spots and associations in accordance with the Vishaka guidelines and POSH (Protection of Women From Sexual Harassment) act. After hearing the public interest litigation filed by WCC, the Kerala High Court has ordered on Thursday that any organisation with more than ten members must form an ICC.

Last week, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) had formed an ICC led by Shwetha Menon, Kukku Parameswaran, Mala Parvathi, and Rachana Narayanankutty. More associations are expected to follow suit, along with the appointing of mandatory officials, be it external members or legal counsels, within them.

Recently, filmmaker Senna Hegde and his team announced that they had set up an ICC on their film 1744 White Alto, a move that was lauded by many.
