Mammootty plays a politician in Kaathal

Shoot for Mammootty's new film Kaathal is currently progressing at a brisk pace. The film, directed by Jeo Baby, stars popular Tamil actor Jyotika as the female lead. A few leaked stills from the film's sets have revealed that Mammootty plays a politican named Mathew Devassy, a left-representing election candidate.

Kaathal is scripted by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria. The film also stars Lalu Alex, Muthumani, Chinnu Chandni, Sudhi Kozhikode, Anagha Akku, Josi Sijo and Adarsh Sukumaran.

Mammotty's home production banner Mammootty Kampany is backing the film, and Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films will be distributing it. On the technical front, Jeo Baby has retained his core team from The Great Indian Kitchen, which includes cinematographer Salu K Thomas, editor Francies Louis and music director Mathews Pulickal.

Mammootty next has Christopher and Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam gearing up for release. Christopher is a investigative-thriller directed by B Unnikrishnan and scripted by Uday Krishna. Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which marks Mammootty's first collaboration with Lijo Jose Pellissery, is set to compete at the upcoming International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK).
