What began as a quirky Kannada village tale has now crossed borders. Su From So, directed by JP Thuminad, starring Shaneel Gautham and Raj B Shetty in a key role, which became one of Kannada cinema’s surprise success stories of 2025, is now being remade into Marathi as Tumbadchi Manjula. The trailer of the film now out.

Released in Kannada as Sulochana From Someshwara, the film eventually shortened its title to Su From So, the film connected with audiences through its mix of mystery, humour and rooted village storytelling, performing strongly not only in Karnataka but also finding appreciation in outside the state, particularly among younger audiences drawn to its offbeat flavour and word-of-mouth appeal. Now, that success is being reimagined for Marathi audiences.

The trailer of Tumbadchi Manjula was recently unveiled at a grand launch event in Mumbai attended by film personalities and industry guests. While staying largely faithful to the Kannada original, the Marathi version appears to add its own flavour and scale, including a stronger visual connection to the world of folk mystery and supernatural drama.

The trailer offers glimpses of fear, comedy and village eccentricity, ingredients that helped Su From So stand apart. One noticeable change is the reveal of the guru figure. While the Kannada trailer kept that element under wraps, the Marathi version chooses to showcase it upfront.

Directed by Vidhav Koregaonkar and written by Rishikesh Turai, Tumbadchi Manjula is presented by Zee Studios and produced by Umesh Kumar Bansal and Bhavesh Janvalekar. The cast includes veteran actor Makarand Anaspure, Jitendra Joshi, Om Bhutkar, Anshuman Vichare, Yogesh Shirsat, Ganesh Pandit and Shardul Saraf.

Much of the curiosity, however, surrounds Sai Tamhankar. Since her casting was announced, fans have been speculating about her role and its importance to the story. Tumbadchi Manjula is scheduled for release across Maharashtra on June 5.
